Indie artist Derek Nicoletto’s music has been featured in a host of ads, and this, Champion, from his debut solo album Kind Ghosts is likely to get him talked about a lot more (there are some great remixes). Don’t judge him by just the one track though, as there’s more to him than you might magine.
Perfume Genius is the stage name of Seattle-based gay indie singer-songwriter Mike Hadreas. His songs are highly personal and frequently deal with substance abuse, being accepted as a gay man (there’s a good 2012 interview with him in The Guardian).
The video for his song Hood features the late porn star Arpad Miklas. Mike is unashamed about being open about his sexuality.
“I’m very conscious about it, but I also want it to not be a big deal. But I still get nervous. And if Rick in Pittsburgh or whatever isn’t going to listen to my music because I’m gay, fuck it.” (more at pitchfork.com)
